Diagnostic steps for autism spectrum disorder

Step one: The Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers (M-CHAT), which is available here, should be completed as the first step in the diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder. The M-CHAT is a brief diagnostic screening survey designed for parents to use to identify autism symptoms. It takes about 10 minutes to complete, and the results are available immediately. We strongly advise you to share the results with your child’s pediatrician for their feedback and thoughts on proceeding with a diagnostic evaluation for autism.

Step two: If the M-CHAT results indicate that your child is at risk of ASD, we encourage you to contact Action Mental Health and fill out our online form. We’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
